This time, 14 Pilots, Friends and Family where again at Pokweni for 4 days of flying and to have some fun in this coming-together. As in the past, everybody enjoyed the perfect camping facilities, the enormous space at the Pan and the flying without limits.
The Weather was quite okay too. The Wind was moderate and only at night it was to cool for a T shirt and shorts.
How popular this Event is, is proven by Christian who again drove all the way up from Swakopmund.
He flew cross country with his Piper Seneca not only to bring himself from Swakopmund, no, even more, to pick up Andre from the Okahandja Airfield and Sammy who lastly got in Windhoek on board.
All Maiden flights were rather successful: (Only to name the large petrol powered Planes.)
Werner' s very nice Stinson Reliant as well as Thomas new Wilga got Airborne.
Except for Erwin.
His first landing with his newly repaired Corsair was not sooo hard, but enough to damage one landing gear. Okay, such things are happening from time to time.
But his 's 80cc Mustang “Gentleman Jim”...
The Motor obviously produced so much vibrations that short after take of; firstly the Cockpit disintegrated in bits and pieces. Than, some Cowling covers falling off and one Elevator becomes loose. Only connected to the push-rod, hanging 45 degrees into the Air, it was a wonder that it was not flying away too.
To make this flight even more difficult, one Aileron servo became loose and one side of the Flaps was not operational anymore.
On a normal Airfield, for such heavily damaged Plane it is often time to say goodbye.
But thanks to the extremely long and wide “runway” he got the chance and managed it to land his Plane safely. With Wings who was only slightly “attached” to the Fuselage anymore: These Screws was loose too.
Congratulations for this remarkable Maiden flight, Erwin. One Story more to tell on the Campfires to come...
It is not possible to recount all the things happen... Olaf his funny looking Quickie... Christians huge Helicopter and all the Ah's and Oh's. Also when Frank showed Brian what his 100cc Edge can really do in the Air. And not to forget: The sound of Erwin's 250cc Fw 190.
A warm thanks to you all for making such an Event possible in the first place.
